Kyutech conducts collaborative online learning with KMUTNB

Kyutech conducted "Robotics PBL Collaborative Practice and Curriculum development through Online Student Exchange" under Sakura Science Program from November 12, 2021 to February 10, 2022. The final competition was held on January 28, and the final presentation on February 10, 2022.

The purpose of this program is to educate the third-year undergraduate students who are taking PBL classes in the GE Course by providing the opportunity to interact with excellent students from overseas in cooperation with the partner universities in Asia in order to develop human resources who can lead the diversed society and future by acquiring new technological perspectives and vision.

This time, 7 students and 4 teachers from the Robotics Course at the King Mongkut's University of Technology North Bangkok (KMUTNB), 12 third-year students and 4 Teaching Assistants(TA) from the Department of Intelligent and Control Systems, School of Computer Science and Systems Engineering, Kyutech participated in the project. 1 team consisted of 3 Kyutech students 1 or 2 KMUTNB students, and a TA.

The students used Zoom and the other tools to build robots for the competition and the final presentation every week. Despite the language barrier and their different backgrounds, the Thai and Japanese students could share their opinions from the different perspectives, and work on their project. The participants stimulated each other and had a meaningful opportunity for the cross-cultural exchange.

- I was able to improve the skills needed to build the robot. Although I had some communication problems, I communicated well after many meetings using simple words and pictures. It was fun to make Japanese friends. I think it is an outstanding program.

- I was satisfied with this program. I was able to acquire knowledge of robot building and communication skills. I am pleased to have made Japanese friends.

- It wasn't easy to convey what I wanted to say, but I tried to explain using gestures and diagrams each time. I also felt that the ideas from KMUTNB students, such as reducing the weight of the product, were innovative and provided me with an experience that I would not have had in a normal experiment.

- I learned that if you can't understand English well, you have a tough time deciding on a production policy like this time. It was a new experience for me, and it motivated me to study English more.
