Ms. Faizah Mappanyompa RUKKA, a first-year master’s course student in the Graduate School of Life Science and Systems Engineering, received the Best Student Presentation Award for her research paper "Fuzzy Sentiment Analysis for Hand Gesture Interpretation in Words Expression" at the International Conference on Biometrics and Kansei Engineering (ICBAKE2025), held at Fukuoka Institute of Technology from September 11 to 13, 2025. This award is given to one student who delivers an oral research presentation as the first author.
In this research, she proposed a method for a more flexible interpretation of hand gestures by performing sentiment analysis using a fuzzy method on impression-expressing hand gestures and impression-expressing words collected simultaneously. This proposed method demonstrated the possibility of different interpretations being possible for even the same hand gesture. The content of this research was highly evaluated, leading to this award.
