From March 17 to 22, 2025, ten undergraduate students participated in a student exchange program at Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) in Malaysia, one of Kyutech’s priority partner universities.
Under the guidance of Associate Professor Hirofumi Saito of the Institute of Liberal Arts, the students visited laboratories in the Faculty of Engineering (in the fields of solar panels, satellites, rockets, and transportation and logistics systems), visited the National Museum, had a trial class in Malay language, and engaged in group work on the topic of introducing AI into the SDGs. During the six days of interaction with a diverse group of local students, the students were challenged to improve their decision-making skills and communication methods, and all participating students felt their growth as a result.
The program took place during the Islamic fasting month of Ramadan. While the participating students were careful to be considerate of the Muslim students, who were not allowed to eat or drink during the day, they were able to engage in a mutually enriching exchange. When they visited the Muslim community at a local mosque, they helped distribute food and practiced the Muslim way of eating with the right hand at iftar (the meal eaten after sunset to break the fast). It was a valuable opportunity for the participating students to deepen their understanding of the religious and ideological aspect of Ramadan and to experience firsthand the lifestyle and culture of the local people.
