For its Autumn event, GCL hosted a Halloween party with only a few tricks but plenty of treats.
In preparation, GCL staff made Dorayaki (a Japanese-style sweet consisting of red bean paste between two sweet pancakes) and Baby Castella. Two German exchange students who are studying at Kyutech this semester had the idea to bake traditional German cookies for the event, so GCL was filled with the sweet smell of a bakery all day long. Many Japanese and other exchange students were interested in the cookies, which made for a great opportunity for the German students to share about their culture.
Around 3 PM, the party finally got into full swing and many students filed into GCL to take part in the fun. One of the exchange student staff at GCL did a great job of coming up with several games for the party, such as a trick-or-treat candy toss, Pictionary, and Halloween-themed “cup pong” (see pictures). As there were special prizes involved, all the students brought their best competitive spirit and GCL was lively with cheering and laughter.
Overall, the event was a great success, and many students were talking about how fun the event was even a week later.
